The World Baseball Classic is back. And the organizers today presented the dates and groups with which 20 countries will face each other during March 2023.
It is interesting to remember that the most recent version of the Clásico was held in 2017. It was scheduled to be presented again in 2021 but due to the Covid pandemic it was necessary to move it for two years.
Today the confirmation of the dates and the distribution of the groups took place, which will be as follows:
Group A will play at the Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan, between March 9 and 13. It will be made up of the following teams:
Taiwan, Cuba, Italy, Netherlands and one of the winners of the qualifying tournament.
Those in Group B will be based at the Tokyo Dome, also between March 9 and 13.
It will be made up of the following teams: Japan, Australia, China, South Korea and the winner of the qualifying tournament.
The members of Group C will be at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and will play between March 11 and 15. The members of the group are the United States, the reigning champion, Canada, Colombia, Mexico and the winner of the qualifier.
Group D will work in Miami, which will also play from March 11 to 15. It is predictably one of the most difficult and complicated groups to pass.
The members are the Dominican Republic, Israel, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and the winner of a qualifier.
The quarterfinals will be held between March 15 and 16. The two finalists from groups A and B, who will play at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, will advance to this phase.
The quarterfinals of groups C and D will be between March 17 and 18, equally with the two best teams in each group.
The semifinals and the final of the tournament are scheduled between March 19 and 21, to be held in Miami.
