RCB Wins First IPL Title, Vijay Mallya Recalls Team’s Inception

RCB’s long wait is over. They took down Punjab Kings in the final to win the IPL 2025 title. This is RCB’s first-ever IPL trophy.

Vijay Mallya, the team’s old owner, looked back on the early days. He remembered how he built the team from scratch. Mallya had bid on young players in the auction 18 years ago. He loved seeing King Kohli stay loyal to the team for so long.

RCB beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final in Ahmedabad. Mallya took to ‘X’ to share his thoughts. “When I created RCB, my dream was to bring the IPL title to Bengaluru. I picked young King Kohli, and it’s great to see him stay with RCB for 18 years.”

Mallya bought RCB for $111.6 million in 2008. He picked Kohli in the first auction in January 2008. Since then, Kohli has been with RCB. Mallya lost ownership of the team in 2016 due to unpaid bank loans. Now, United Spirits owns the team.

Mallya also picked other big names like AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Jacques Kallis, and Anil Kumble for RCB. He wrote, “I chose the Universal Boss Chris Gayle and Mr. 360 AB de Villiers, who are a big part of RCB’s history. The IPL trophy is finally coming to Bengaluru. Thanks to everyone for making my dream come true. RCB fans are the best and deserve this win. Ee saala cup Bengaluru baruthe.”
