Hasaranga was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore after IPL 2023. According to the reports, it has now been announced that Hasaranga has been appointed as the captain of the Sri Lanka T20 team. On the other hand, after the release of RCB, Hasaranga was bought in the mini-auction at the base price.
According to Sports Pavilion report, Hasaranga has been appointed captain of the T20 International team by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. Sri Lanka toured New Zealand in April for a series in all three formats with the command of Sri Lanka’s T20 team in the hands of Dasun Shanaka. But now Harsanga has been appointed captain of the T20 team. However, there is no official confirmation of this yet.
The year 2023 was not a good year for Hasranga. Due to an injury, he was unable to take part in the 2023 Asian Cup this year and then again in 2023. Hasaranga was injured while playing in the Lanka Premier League in August and is out of cricket after that. RCB also released him ahead of IPL 2024. However, in the 2024 mini-auction, the Sri Lankan all-rounder was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the base price of Rs 1.5 Crore.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder has played 4 Tests, 48 ODIs and 58 T20 International matches so far in his career. Although Hasaranga has retired from Test cricket. Now he only plays ODI and T20 cricket. He played four Tests in his career in which he took four wickets and scored 196 runs while batting with the help of a half-century.
Apart from this, Hasaranga took 67 wickets in 47 ODI innings, batted in 42 innings and scored 832 runs with the help of 4 half-centuries. While he took 91 wickets in 56 innings of T20 International and scored 533 runs in 49 innings including a half-century.
