Razer has just announced its entry into a new niche in the tech market. This time, the American company directs its efforts to build a new ecosystem for its smart home.
In fact, Razer is preparing to launch its application and platform to control the smart devices you have around the house. Its application will be launched in the first half of 2022, marking the official start of the brand’s foray into this segment.
Razer will focus on smart lighting systems for now.
With the smart home market clearly expanding, Razer sees an opportunity to take advantage of its know how for this niche. Drawing on his knowledge of RGB lighting, this will be the main focus of the brand, at least in this initial phase.
Razer’s new app wants to offer the user a “set of lighting effects.” Using the brand’s own words, users will be able to “create an immersive environment that resonates with all home entertainment.”
In fact, the American brand will use its Chroma RGB technology and how it reacts to music, videos and games. In other words, the lighting effects will match the beat of your favorite music or games.
Chroma RGB technology currently relies on an application designed for the PC. This barrier will be overcome this year, with its migration to a mobile application that you can install on your smartphone.
At the moment, it is unclear if Razer plans to expand beyond the smart lighting market. You could do it with support for other smart devices like doorbells, security cameras, and more.
In this first phase, the brand has already partnered with the Nanoleaf and Lifx brands. These are already well known in the smart lighting market and will be the first to support the Razer platform.
We applaud Razer’s effort to break into this niche, however it has a difficult path to follow to stand out. It is important to emphasize that you will have to fight against a market led by Google Assistant and Alexa that already has thousands of gadgets and users around the world.
