Although the Indian bowlers performed poorly in the first game of the five-match T20 series against Australia, Mukesh Kumar definitely impressed everyone with his bowling. On a suitable batting pitch at Visakhapatnam ground, Mukesh Kumar scored just 29 runs in his four overs in the match, in which he also bowled the last over of the innings. Mukesh had scored just 5 runs in that over, due to which the Australian team failed to increase their score to over 208 runs. After this excellent performance from Mukesh, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has now named him as the next Junior Mohammed Shami.
Ashwin gave this reason why he called Mukesh the next Shami
Mukesh Kumar made his debut in international cricket during the series in all three formats played on the tour of West Indies in the month of July-August this year. Mukesh has had a great first IPL season with Delhi Capitals and so far he has impressed everyone in all the matches he has played for Team India. Talking about Mukesh, Ravichandran Ashwin said on his YouTube channel that at first I thought Mohammed Siraj Jr. would become Shami but now I think it might be Mukesh Kumar. Ashwin then highlighted Mukesh’s physique and the condition of his wrist to support his claim that the young fast bowler could be the next Mohammed Shami.
Ashwin pointed out these similarities in the bowling of Mukesh and Shami
Ravichandran Ashwin further talked about Mukesh Kumar’s bowling in this video and also shared what similarities there are between Mohammed Shami and his bowling. Ashwin said Mukesh has a similar build, similar height, he has great wrist grip and great backspin on the ball. Mukesh showed brilliant bowling performance during the West Indies tour. He has the ability to emulate Mohammed Shami as the young fast bowler’s ability to bowl yorkers at will has caught his attention.
