Ravi Shastri reacted to Kohli leaving the captaincy, recounted the saddest day

Cricket legends are giving their respective reactions on social media after Virat Kohli stepped down as test team captain. Some former players and coaches are surprised by this decision by Virat Kohli, while many have congratulated Kohli on a successful test run as captain. Kohli has captained the India team in 68 matches and has managed to beat India 40 times.

Following Kohli’s retirement from the captaincy, BCCI wrote on Twitter: “BCCI congratulates Indian team captain Virat Kohli for his excellent leadership qualities. Led Test team to unprecedented heights. Has managed India in 68 matches and is the most successful captain in the country with 40 wins.

Board Secretary Jay Shah said: “Congratulations to Virat Kohli on his wonderful stint as captain of the Indian team. Virat has transformed the team into a fit unit that has performed admirably both in India and abroad. Winning trials in Australia and England is special.

The team’s former coach Ravi Shastri wrote: “Virat, you can go with your head held high. What you have achieved as a captain, few people have been able to do. Definitely the most aggressive and successful captain in India. To me , personally, it is a sad day because this is the India team flag that we have made together with Virat Kohli.

Mohammad Azharuddin, who was captain of the Indian team for a long time, wrote on Twitter: “It is always an honor to lead an ever-growing Indian team and the decision to step down is an emotional moment. Virat Kohli, you have had a good journey as captain.

Former starter Virender Sehwag tweeted: “Many congratulations to Virat Kohli for a wonderful run as Indian Test captain. Statistics don’t lie and he was not only the most successful Indian Test captain but also one of the most successful captains in the world. You can be very proud. Kohli now looks forward to seeing your dominance with the bat.”

Former teammate Suresh Raina tweeted: “I am also shocked by this sudden decision by Kohli, I respect his decision. I can congratulate him for what he has done for world cricket and India. He is one of the most aggressive and fit players in the India. I hope he continues to shine for India as a player.”

Former Indian team goalkeeper Parthiv Patel wrote: “Virat Kohli has been India’s most successful test captain and he can be proud of his achievements. Congratulations on a wonderful entry as captain.
