Rashmika Mandanna Slams Overwork Culture: ‘Not Sustainable, Prioritize Life’

Actress Rashmika Mandanna has weighed in on the ongoing debate about working hours and work-life balance within the film industry. Her comments come as she promotes her upcoming feature, The Girlfriend.

Mandanna emphasized that glorifying excessive work is problematic. She openly admitted to overworking herself, describing the practice as "not advisable" and "not sustainable."

She urged others to prioritize personal comfort and well-being. "Do what is comfortable for you, what is right for you," Mandanna stated, advocating for standard 8 to 10-hour workdays. She believes this approach will offer long-term benefits.

The actress revealed she has not had a full eight hours of sleep in months. Despite her personal struggle, she still finds herself taking on more responsibility than she should.

Mandanna explained that she feels a duty to her team. If they are struggling with locations or tight shooting schedules, she agrees to work extra hours.

She hopes for a shift towards more regular schedules in the industry. Mandanna expressed a desire for filmmaking to adopt 9-to-5 or 9-to-6 work hours, similar to other professions. This would apply to actors, directors, and crew members alike.

Such a change would allow for a healthier personal life, Mandanna noted. She wants time for family, adequate sleep, and fitness. She is also considering her future health and avoiding regrets.

Her producer for The Girlfriend, SKN, previously praised Mandanna for her dedication, stating she does not view work in terms of hours. Mandanna’s recent remarks add a nuanced perspective to that sentiment.
