Ranya Rao’s troubles show no signs of easing up. A Bengaluru court rejected the actress’s bail plea in a gold smuggling case. She was arrested on March 3 after being caught with 14.5 kilograms of gold at the airport.
The 33-year-old actress had returned from Dubai when she was detained. Authorities also found gold worth 12.56 crore rupees and 2.06 crore rupees in jewelry at her home.
During questioning, Ranya admitted that the money used to buy the gold was transferred through hawala channels. This is the third time her bail plea has been rejected.
Ranya’s Bail Plea Rejected
Ranya was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport with gold worth 12.56 crore rupees. Her home was searched, and more gold and cash were found. She confessed to using hawala channels to transfer money for the gold.
Ranya Admits to Wrongdoing
The court had asked the customs department to file its objections to Ranya’s bail plea before the hearing. The department told the court that Ranya had admitted to using hawala transactions to buy the gold.
The court heard both sides and reserved its order on her bail for March 27. Ranya’s legal team is now preparing to approach the Karnataka High Court for bail.
What Happened Last Time?
Last week, the court rejected the bail plea of Tarun Konduru Raju, who was arrested on March 10 for his role in the gold smuggling case. The customs department had strongly opposed his bail plea, saying he might flee if released.
