Director Aditya Dhar’s highly anticipated action film “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” starring Ranveer Singh, is facing potential delays for its North American premieres scheduled for Wednesday. According to The Times of India, last-minute re-edits and content delivery issues threaten to disrupt screenings for theaters relying on physical hard drives.
The distribution hurdle comes just hours before the film’s official worldwide rollout on March 19. While theaters utilizing electronic delivery systems are expected to operate normally, locations waiting on physical drives have reportedly not received the second half of the movie, leaving international ticket holders in limbo.
The eleventh-hour scramble follows a viral report from the Central Board of Film Certification. Despite granting the film an ‘A’ certificate, the board mandated four major alterations from a list of 21 initial suggestions. These required cuts include the removal of severe violent sequences, notably a scene depicting “beheading and kicking.”
These mandated edits have resulted in differing versions of the film across global markets. The Indian release will run approximately six minutes shorter than the international version. The original submission to the certification board clocked in at roughly three hours and 51 minutes, while the overseas cut sits at approximately three hours and 55 minutes.
As of Wednesday morning local time, neither the studio nor major theater chains have issued an official statement regarding the delayed hard drives. The Hindi version and its regional dubs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam are currently expected to debut in Indian markets with minimal disruption.
The delay injects unexpected tension into the global entertainment market, as the feature prepares to compete directly with the Hollywood science fiction release “Project Hail Mary,” starring Ryan Gosling, in North American theaters.
