Colombo: Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Raja Pakse has re-appointed five-time Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister.

According to foreign media, President Gotabhaya Raja Pakse has appointed 73-year-old Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has a seat in Parliament, as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka to bring stability to the country which is suffering from severe economic crisis. Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken the oath of office.

Presidential spokeswoman Sodiva Hetiarchi told reporters that a cabinet appointment was expected tomorrow.

Ranil Wickremesinghe has been the Prime Minister five times before. He became prime minister for the first time in 1993. But he is currently the sole representative of his party in the 225-member parliament.

It may be recalled that Mahinda Raja Pakse, brother of President Gotabaya Raja Pakse, resigned from the post of Prime Minister on Monday while violent protesters across the country were demanding resignation from the government.
