Rangers captain James Tavernier sharply criticized his teammates’ lack of on-field aggression and poor commitment after the Scottish club suffered a resounding 3-0 defeat to Norwegian side Brann, signaling a growing crisis.
Tavernier called the match a “terrible performance,” stating it was “simple as that.” He noted a pattern of similar moments during his tenure, marked by multiple poor displays.
He specifically targeted teammates who, in his view, only show “aggression after games and after we lose.” The captain demanded that players individually “look within and improve.”
Tavernier stressed that instructions from coaches must be executed on the field.
He emphasized a fundamental lack of effort. “We don’t fight enough,” he stated, adding that this expectation should be “internalized in everyone” at the club.
The 3-0 defeat against Norwegian side Brann triggered the captain’s outburst. This loss deepens the club’s current struggles.
New manager Danny Rohl has endured a difficult start since taking over the team.
His predecessor, Russel Martin, was dismissed after securing only five wins in his first 17 games in charge.
Tavernier expressed personal frustration, stating he was “very angry” and had “never been in this position here” at the club.
