Rana Naidu Season 2 Review: Netflix’s Latest Attempt Falls Short

Rana Naidu Season 2 is back with a bang, but this time it’s more of the same old story. The show’s tone is still as dark and gritty as its first season, with a team of writers trying to adapt a foreign series to an Indian audience. However, the writing team’s lack of effort in understanding the Indian landscape is evident. They seem to have lost touch with the country, despite having traveled the world.

The show’s creators have taken inspiration from various sources, including Karan Anshuman’s own web series “Inside Edge” and the popular show “Mirzapur.” The result is a show that feels like a mishmash of different ideas, rather than a cohesive narrative. The characters’ arrogance and ego dominate the show, making it difficult for viewers to connect with them.

One of the few new additions to the show is Kriti Kharbanda, who makes her OTT debut. Her character, Aalia Oberoi, is introduced as the daughter of a film studio owner, which feels like a convenient plot device. The show also tries to tackle the issue of relationships and how they are affected by the changing social landscape. However, the writing team’s approach to this topic feels lazy and unconvincing.

The show’s direction is equally unimpressive. The creators have tried to pack in as much action and drama as possible, but it feels like a failed attempt to create a compelling narrative. The show’s pacing is slow, and the characters’ actions feel predictable. The only thing that keeps the show going is the performances of its leads, particularly Rana Daggubati.

Daggubati is the main reason why the show works, despite its flaws. He brings a certain level of charm and charisma to his character, which makes him watchable. However, even his performance can’t save the show from its overall lackluster feel. The supporting cast, including Venkatesh and Arjun Rampal, feels underutilized, and their characters are not fleshed out enough.

Overall, Rana Naidu Season 2 feels like a rehash of the same old ideas, with a new cast of characters. The show’s lack of originality and poor writing make it a disappointing watch. Even die-hard fans of the first season might find themselves struggling to stay engaged. With a rating of 2 out of 5, this show is a clear example of how a good concept can be ruined by poor execution.
