Ramírez and González tow for the success of the Guardians

Jose Ramirez had a two-run double and the Cleveland Guardians scored six times with two outs in the eighth inning, rallying to beat the Detroit Tigers 8-4 on Wednesday.

Two rookies, Steven Kwan and Óscar González, hit RBI doubles. Amed Rosario and Owen Miller also added RBI singles in the eighth for the Guardians, leaders of the American League Central Division.

Cleveland trailed 4-1 in the sixth and 4-2 entering the eighth.

Andrew Chafin (0-3) struck out the first three batters in the inning but threw a wild pitch that allowed Luke Maile to reach base and extend the inning. Then Cleveland stringed together five hits and seven players reached base in a row.

Rosario greeted Alex Lange with an infield single that drove in Myles Straw, and Ramirez followed with a fly ball that landed off left fielder Akil Baddoo.

Kwan and Rosario scored to give the Guardians a 6-4 lead.

Cleveland remained one game ahead of Minnesota in the division. Bryan Shaw (6-2) retired a batter for the win.

For the Tigers, Dominican Willi Castro 2-1 with a home run, a run scored and one produced, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 4-1 with a run scored. The Venezuelans Víctor Reyes 2-1 with a run scored and an RBI and Harold Castro 2-0.

For the Guardians, the Dominicans José Ramírez 4-1 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Amed Rosario 4-1 with one scored and one produced and Óscar González 5-2 with one scored and two produced. The Venezuelan Andrés Giménez 5-2 with a run scored.
