Former cricketer Ramiz Raja was ousted from the position of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and since then he has been making several major statements one after another. In the last week, he has made many accusations against the new committee dealing with Pakistan cricket affairs. He has also commented on Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. He has now given an interesting answer to a question about the departure of Misbah and Waqar from the coaching staff during his tenure in 2021.
Ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rameez Raja had sacked Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis while he was PCB Chairman. When Rameez was asked about this decision on ‘Saman TV’, he said that his decision was the need of the hour. He also said that even before becoming president, he had said that this change was necessary.
Rameez said: ‘We had annual contracts. His contract would have ended in January/February anyway. We brought in new management a little early. It was not an easy decision for me. I have played cricket with Waqar. I discussed this in detail with him. The CEO had a conversation with Misbah. This change, which occurred 10 days before the T20 World Cup, was definitely not looking good. But I knew we could only go so far with them. That’s why I had to make that decision.
Rameez said: ‘He was given full pay for two years. He was given all the respect. As president, he had every right to remove him. Even now he (PCB) is talking about removing Saqlain Mushtaq (current head coach) and wants to replace him with Mickey Arthur.
The command of the Pakistan Cricket Board is currently held by Najam Sethi. He is taking decisions related to Pakistan cricket with the help of a 14-member committee. He has also recently formed a new interim selection committee under the leadership of Shahid Afridi, replacing the old selection committee.
