Rajkumar Rao and Vamika Gabbi’s film ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ has been pulled from theaters just a day before its scheduled release. The producers have decided to stream it directly on OTT instead.
The Last-Minute Change
The film’s press show was set for today in Delhi and Mumbai, but the plans were scrapped. Industry insiders say there was no buzz around the film, despite its lead stars touring half the country for promotion.
Why the Theatrical Release Was Scrapped
Maddock Films, the production house behind ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’, had banked on the success of previous hits like ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Chhaava’. The film was made in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, which ultimately decided to release it directly on Prime Video.
In the Indian film industry, producers typically pay a certain amount to theater owners before a film’s release. The revenue sharing percentage between producers and distributors is also a point of contention. However, the decision to pull ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ from theaters is attributed to the current situation following ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The Official Statement
The producers released a statement on Thursday, saying, “Considering recent events and heightened security measures across the country, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to release our family entertainment film ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ directly on Prime Video on May 16. While we were excited to celebrate this film with everyone in theaters, the nation comes first. Jai Hind.”
