Fans currently enjoying Rajesh Kumar’s performance in the film ‘Saiyaara’ might be surprised by his past. The actor, well-known for his role as Roshesh in the popular show ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’, plays Anit Padda’s father in his latest project. While he is a recognized face in entertainment, Rajesh recently shared details about a challenging period in his life when he was truly on the brink of financial ruin.
Rajesh Kumar, who has also appeared in shows like ‘Excuse Me Madam’ and ‘Kota Factory’, recently made a strong return to the industry with ‘Saiyaara’. He spoke in a recent interview about going through a very tough time. This period included severe financial losses and deep emotional stress. However, he has bounced back impressively. Rajesh told ‘Meri Saheli’ that he faced a huge money crunch. He admitted, “Bankruptcy, absolutely. My income stopped entirely, but expenses kept piling up. All my savings disappeared. I ended up two crore rupees in debt.”
Plans Didn’t Work Out
The actor further explained, “Bankruptcy is a big word, but that feeling stayed with me for a long time. I couldn’t even gather enough money to live. It was a very difficult phase.” Rajesh Kumar decided to step away from acting in 2019 to try his hand at farming. However, things did not go as planned. He wanted to break the common belief that farming is only for people who do not have better career options. He pointed out, “These days, no one dreams of growing up to be a farmer.”
COVID Lockdown Made Things Worse
Rajesh had just begun farming when conditions took a turn for the worse. First, bad weather affected his crops, and then the COVID pandemic made everything even more challenging. The actor stated, “Financially, I was in deep trouble. By the time of the lockdown, all my savings were gone, and I was truly bankrupt. I had nothing left in my pocket. I was under heavy debt, and that increased the pressure even more.” Rajesh also shared a story from when he was shooting for the film ‘Binny and Family’.
Could Not Buy Two Chocolates for His Children
He explained that he had to travel to the UK for a 24-day shoot. However, he was so short on money that he could not buy anything for his children. The actor said his bank account held only 2,500 rupees at that time. During the 24-day shoot, he traveled to and from the UK twice. Still, he could not even buy two chocolates for his kids. Despite these difficult times, his family remained his biggest support. Now, he has made a strong return to the entertainment industry. The film ‘Saiyaara’ has proven to be a blockbuster hit. Directed by Mohit Suri, the movie marked the debuts of Ahan Panday and Anit Padda.
