Rainer Núñez, with a home run in the ninth, decides the Estrellas victory against the Águilas

The Estrellas Orientales defeated the Águilas Cibaeñas 2-1 this Thursday in a match held at the Cibao Stadium in Santiago in the continuation of the 2022-2023 autumn-winter baseball tournament.

Rainer Núñez was the All-Star “Star Player” when he homered in the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie against reliever Richard Rodríguez.

It was the second victory in a row for the green school team (17-22), occupying fourth place in the standings and now taking two games ahead of the Toros del Este (15-24), who fell 1- 0 for Tigres del Licey (24-13) at the Francisco Micheli Stadium in La Romana in 11 innings.

For the Águilas, who stopped a four-victory streak, they had their best offensive man in Wilmer Difó, driving in the only run for the Cibaeño team.

The match, which was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., began after eight o’clock due to the rains that have fallen in much of the country. In the eighth, the rain made an appearance again, with a delay of 20 minutes to restart the actions again.

The victory went to Gerson Moreno (1-0), who worked the eighth inning without any problems. The loss went to Richard Rodriguez, who allowed the go-ahead run for the Stars in the ninth. Ronel Blanco was credited with his fourth save of the tournament.

For the Stars, the starting pitcher was Yennsy Díaz, with a work of four episodes of five hits, one run and two tickets. He was followed by Enmanuel de Jesús (1.0), Raffi Vizcaíno (1.0), Chester Pimentel (1.0), Moreno (1.0) and Blanco (1.0).

Joe Van Meter started for the Eagles with a performance of four one-hit innings, one transfer and five strikeouts. Nick Hernández (2.0), Frank Germán (1.0), Neftalí Féliz (1.0), Rodríguez (1.0) continued on the mound.
