Rahul Gandhi sentenced to two years in prison

An Indian court in Gujarat sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison in a defamation case.

According to Indian media, the court of Surat in Gujarat sentenced Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the political party Congress, in the 2019 defamation case.

Court convicts Rahul Gandhi in ‘Modi Sarnam’ statement case. Rahul Gandhi himself was present in the court on the occasion of the verdict, however, the court suspended the Congress leader’s sentence after some time, granted his bail for 30 days and he has also been given the right to appeal against the verdict.

The case against Rahul Gandhi was filed by BJP MLA and former minister Parneesh Modi, in which Rahul Gandhi is accused of addressing those who have Modi surname as thieves.

Rahul Gandhi had made this statement during a rally during the Lok Sabha election campaign in 2019 against which the petitioner had argued that Rahul Gandhi had insulted the entire Modi community.
