The first day of the Second Liv Golf 2025 station in Adelaida, Australia, was marked by excitement and surprises, with 30,000 spectators attending the event. Englishman Sam Horsfield, a member of the Majestics, took the lead with 66 blows, four strokes ahead of Jon Rahm, the captain of Legion XIII. Rahm had a challenging day, struggling with his approach blows on the green, but managed to read the falls well and keep his options intact for the remaining two days.
Challenges on the Green
Rahm’s problems started from the tee, where he only took 50 percent of the streets, and worsened when he couldn’t leave the flag ball close. However, his ability to read the falls allowed him to minimize the damage. Meanwhile, Horsfield surpassed Mexican Carlos Ortiz and Chilean Joaquín Niemann, his colleagues in El Torque, to take the top spot. Ortiz played an impressive 11 fantasy holes, with eight birdies, but concluded with two bogeys to sign a 67. Niemann, on the other hand, took advantage of three of the four pairs 5 and only made one mistake.
The day was not without its surprises, including a hole in one by Patrick Reed. However, the end of the Indian Anirban Lahiri was a stark contrast, as he had reached the leader in five low torque without failures until the last three holes, where he signed a nine in a dramatic turn of events.
Other Notable Performances
David Puig had a brave start with four birdies and two bogeys in the first seven holes but fell a couple of strokes after that. He ended the day with 71, the same score as his captain in the Fireballs, Sergio García. Luis Masaveu complied with 73, after four birdies and five bogeys. The competition is heating up, and it will be interesting to see how the remaining two days unfold.
