The Spanish Jon Rahm gave up the lead at the Farmers Insurance Open to American Will Zalatoris and Australian Jason Day. PGA Tour tournament played at the Torrey Pines club in San Diego, California (USA), after delivering a card of 72 shots and finishing third with one more shot.
Rahm did not have his best day in San Diego. A bogey on the 12th hole and another double on the 10th eliminated an advantage achieved yesterday that the three birdies achieved, on the 2nd, 9th and 15th holes, could not counteract. The “Lion of Barrika”, current number one in the world, completed the third tour of the tournament, the second on the south course, in 72 shots for a total of 203 (13 under par), one more than the leaders.
Rahm, who shares third place with English golfer Aaron Rai, will seek his seventh win on the PGA Tour tomorrow in the final, the only one of a PGA tournament to be played on Saturday, and thus achieving his second title in San Diego after winning in 2017 with 65 strokes in the closing.
Will Zalatoris climbed 16 positions after a great performance without errors and with five birdies and an eagle for a total of 65 shots and an accumulated 202 (-14), while the double bogey committed by Day was diluted among the six birdies that the Australian holed to finish with a card of 67 impacts.
The final day, on the north course of the field, is expected to be interesting. Among the top 12 classified in the table there were only 3 strokes.
