Rafael Nadal advanced to a record 21 Grand Slam singles titles in men’s tennis, defeating Matteo Berrettini 6.3, 6.2, 3.6, 6.3 to reach the Australian Open final. Nadal dominated the first two sets and rocked his Italian opponent down the court. He took a 4.0 lead in the second set and Berettini, the seventh seed, could only score on his second serve once in 11 attempts.

The roof of the Rod Laver Arena was closed due to heavy rain, which made the interior very wet. In such a situation, the ball became heavy and flat. In the first two sets, all the long casts went in favor of sixth-seeded Spaniard Nadal.

In the third set, Berettini came from behind and made three break points in the eighth game to redeem the second and take a 5.3 lead.

He went on to serve in the next game with four straight points to drag the match into the fourth set. In the eighth game of the fourth set, Nadal broke his serve again and won the match.

Nadal has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles, similar to Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Now he will face the winner of the second semi-final between Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
