Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite is getting a major boost. This chip, used in Microsoft’s Surface laptops, packs a 4-nanometer punch with 12 CPU cores and a top speed of 4.2 GHz. It’s also got a high-performance Qualcomm Adreno X1 graphics processor and AI features.
Other big tech brands like Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Acer are using this chip in their laptops too. But what’s coming next?
Rumor has it that Qualcomm is working on the Snapdragon X2 Elite. This new chip might support up to 64 GB of RAM – that’s double the current top-end version. It could also have 18 CPU cores, a big jump from the current 12.
If these rumors are true, it’d be a huge upgrade from the current Snapdragon X Elite.
The Snapdragon X2 Elite might use something called System-in-Package (SiP) technology. This means they’d pack multiple chips, like the CPU and memory, into one package. It’d make the circuit board smaller, speed up communication between chips, and handle heat better.
But that’s not all. Qualcomm is also reportedly working on the Snapdragon X2 Plus, a follow-up to the Snapdragon X Plus.
We might see these new chips, including the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 for smartphones, at the Snapdragon Summit in September 2025. The event will be held in Hawaii from September 23 to 25.
What to expect from the Snapdragon X2 Elite
- Up to 64 GB of RAM
- 18 CPU cores
- System-in-Package (SiP) technology
- Faster communication between chips
- Better heat management
The future of mobile chips
