Once again, Qualcomm will honor its tradition of releasing an improved version of its high-end processor. And, on this occasion, the brand also wants to redeem itself from some problems that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has registered, specifically the much-talked about overheating of the chip.

For this reason, the new processor is not only expected to be 10% faster than the previous version, but also more energy efficient and “cooler”. But last week it was reported that Qualcomm would have been forced to postpone the announcement of the new version for the second half of this year, due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in China.

Today, the news is different and better. According to Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is preparing to announce and reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus on May 20. Considering that, in an early prediction, the chip would be revealed on May 10, Qualcomm is only delaying the reveal by 10 days, and not a few months as it was advanced last week.

The well-known leaker also advances that after this announcement, Qualcomm will also present the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 that comes to compete directly with MediaTek’s Dimensity 8000 and 8100 chips.

Also after the presentation of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip by Qualcomm, we can expect the official revelations of several smartphones equipped with this processor.

The first, and in a planned dispute already seen with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, will be Xiaomi and Motorola. The latter with the Frontier model and Xiaomi with three different terminals: the 12S Pro, the 12 Ultra and the 12T Pro. Subsequently, Samsung’s folding Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 will be launched, also intended to integrate the improved version of the chip Qualcomm.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be revealed later this year

Previously published rumors also indicate that Qualcomm will reveal its next premium chip, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, later this year.

The processor is expected to be produced by TSMC and will use a 1+3+4 three-cluster architecture: one super core, three dedicated performance cores, and four energy-efficient cores.

For its part, Qualcomm has already confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will integrate a new 5G modem called Snapdragon X70. In addition to bringing advanced new features, the X70 modem will also support 10Gbps download speeds on 5G networks.
