Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chip, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, is coming later in 2025. According to Digital Chat Station, a well-known tech insider, the new chip will bring significant performance upgrades.
CPU Boost
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will be made using TSMC’s 3nm N3P process. It will feature 8 CPU cores:
- 2 Prime Oryon Gen 2 cores, clocked at 4.4 GHz, a slight bump from the 4.32 GHz in the previous generation.
- 6 Performance Oryon Gen 2 cores.
The chip is built on Armv9 architecture, supporting SME 1 and SVE2. These features will enhance processing power and support advanced AI capabilities.
AI Processing Power
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 will come with a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU capable of 100 TOPS. This will allow for more complex AI tasks.
GPU Upgrade
The chip will also feature an Adreno 840 GPU with a 33% larger 16MB L2 cache. This will improve graphics processing by 30%.
Qualcomm is expected to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 at the Snapdragon Summit in September 2025. The chip is likely to power flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Xiaomi 16 in early 2026.
