THE Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 it’s official. It is a new SoC (system on chip), also known as a mid/high-end processor with several of the advantages found in the high-end -Snapdragon 8- but at a fraction of its usual sale price.

We will find this processor in the next generation of mid-range and mid-range/high-end Android smartphones. That is, in mobiles that cost between 400 and 800 euros, approximately. With that said, it’s time to get acquainted with this new chipset.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is the first to present various features and functionalities for this price segment. It will be used first in smartphones from Xiaomi, OPPO and Honor to arrive on the market during the second half of 2022.

By the way, the first phone with this Qualcomm chipset will be presented during the next week, on May 23.

The main features of Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is built according to the 4nm lithography. It has a total of eight processing cores grouped into two clusters or groups of four. More specifically, we have 4 cores Cortex-A710 with the maximum processing frequency in 2.4GHz, as well as quad core Cortex-A510 for lighter tasks.

This processor has the graphics GPU adreno 662 which promises 20% higher graphics performance than the previous generation. In addition, it is equipped with Qualcomm’s X62 5G modem that guarantees maximum download speeds of 4.4 GB/ps via data with dual 5G connection.

On the other hand, we also have support for Wi-Fi 6E connection, as well as the Bluetooth 5.3 standard. Additionally, it supports Snapdragon Sound and aptX technologies for the best possible sound quality over Bluetooth.

It should also be noted that this new mid-range processor can support up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. Additionally, the new “engine” can drive full resolution Quad-HD+ displays at 60Hz or Full-HD+ up to 144Hz.

This Qualcomm processor can support cameras with a maximum resolution of 200 MP (single sensor), or up to three 25 MP sensors, as well as a combination of these. For example, it will support 64 MP + 20 MP sensors, a combination popular.

Furthermore, Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 supports 720p HD video recording at 480fps or 4K HDR up to 30fps. It also includes support for the HDR10+, HDR10 standards and for the HLG content format. To do this, it uses a total of three 14-bit Image Signal Processors (ISPs).

With Spectra Triple ISP, users can take photos at a staggering 200 MP resolution, a first in the #Dragon mouth 7, or shoot simultaneously from three cameras. 4K HDR produces photos with incredible contrast, sharpness, and realism. [4/5]

Finally, the new processor supports various GPS tracking systems such as GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, NavIC, as well as dual-band GNSS.

Finally, this Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 integrates the Android SE security system as well as the Trusted Management Engine that promise a new security standard for our most sensitive information.

In short, this is an extremely promising processor, with a cost much lower than that of the Snapdragon 8 range chipsets. Now we just have to wait for the presentation of the first Android smartphones with this SoC. Something that will take place on May 23 with the presentation of OPPO.
