Qualcomm: Most Android Phones Will Soon Share Files with Apple via AirDrop

Qualcomm has confirmed that a broad range of Android smartphones powered by its Snapdragon chipsets will soon gain the ability to share files directly with Apple’s AirDrop, significantly expanding cross-platform interoperability.

This development follows Google’s earlier announcement that its upcoming Pixel 10 phones would support native Quick Share functionality for AirDrop. The move is set to dismantle a long-standing barrier between the Android and Apple ecosystems.

Qualcomm, a leading global chipset manufacturer, shared its confirmation via its X platform. The company stated that the cross-platform file transfer feature would extend beyond Google’s Tensor chips.

This means a vast number of Android devices, regardless of brand, will be able to perform these direct file transfers. Brands like Samsung, OnePlus, NothingPhone, and Honor, which widely utilize Snapdragon processors, are expected to benefit.

The ability for Android phones to “speak the same language” as Apple devices without needing third-party applications has generated considerable anticipation among users.

However, Qualcomm has not yet specified which particular phone models will support Quick Share via AirDrop. It also remains unclear if other Snapdragon-equipped devices, such as tablets, laptops, or smartwatches, will gain this capability.

The company has not provided a specific timeline for when this new functionality will be rolled out. Apple has not yet issued any public statement regarding these interoperability developments.
