Qatar will receive more than one million visitors without building hotels

The Qatar World Cup is just over a year away and, to meet the demand for accommodation of some 1.5 million visitors expected during the World Cup, the Supreme Committee in charge of organizing the event this week signed a agreement with the hotel group Accor to provide services until the end of 2022, and avoiding the construction of hotels and infrastructure would be left idle after the competition.

The agreement was signed in Doha in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Qatar; and the Secretary General of the Committee, Hassan Al Thawadi; together with Sebastien Bazin, President and CEO of Accor.

This means that Accor will staff what will be the largest serviced real estate operation on the planet.

Al Thawadi said, “This groundbreaking agreement is another example of how the approach is truly historic, not only in terms of setting the highest standards for delivery, but also for legacy planning.”

“By making full use of existing residential apartments and villas in Qatar, we are able to offer visitors a range of affordable and comfortable options, while ensuring we have a sustainable hotel market that does not leave a glut of rooms after 2022 ”He added.

Yasir Al Jamal, president of the SC Operations Office and vice president of the Technical Delivery Office, said that “the firm represents a significant step in our promise to offer a wide range of options to visitors.”

“This will enhance the overall experience for everyone staying in the country and ensure they receive the truly memorable and hospitable welcome for which Qatar and the Arab world are famous,” he said.
