Qatar lands in Formula 1

Formula 1 definitively closes its calendar this season. There was still a venue to be confirmed and, this Thursday, the organization of the World Cup makes, finally, official what has already been heard for weeks: Qatar joins the ‘Great Circus’ from this very 2021. The event will take place in November (from 19 to 21), which will lead to the first Qatari Grand Prix in the history of F1, at the Losail Circuit and under the lights of the hundreds of floodlights that cross the route at night in Qatar. Just like MotoGP has done since 2007.

But what has surprised the most is the contract that has been signed for the future of the test in the Qatari desert. Formula 1 announces a ten-year agreement with the Losail track that will begin to run from the grand prix to be held in 2023. And it is that next year, 2022, will not have the race in Qatar, which will focus on the World Cup. One of the most important events in sport that will set its starting point just one year after the celebration of the F1 race this coming November. Of course, from that moment on, the appointment will be held, apparently, in a new circuit or a Losail circuit that could be modified.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, indicates in the same statement that they are “very happy to welcome Qatar to the Formula 1 calendar this season and in the long term from 2023 “. Highlighting that the Qatari authorities” have moved with great speed to ensure that the race can take place this season at the Losail Circuit. ” Which shows the “enormous interest” in F1. and “the hope of many localities to have a Grand Prix.” On the 2021 calendar, now final: “F1 and the FIA have made the 22-race calendar possible, something that is very impressive in such a difficult year and of which we can all be proud. “
