Qatar Airways Hosts First In-Flight Esports Tournament at 35,000 Feet with Starlink Connectivity

Qatar Airways has taken in-flight entertainment to new heights with its “Gaming in the Sky” esports tournament. The event took place on May 11, 2025, on a flight from Doha to London. The airline partnered with Starlink to provide high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi, enabling seamless gaming and live streaming.

A Star-Studded Lineup

The tournament featured a lineup of esports personalities and celebrities, including Tfue, Castro1021, Lisa Zimouche, Alodia Gosiengfiao, Dantic, SV2, AJ3, Aameghessib, Danny Aarons, Ffearfful, MattHDGamer, and Slater. Oussifooty hosted the event. The competition was between Team Burgundy Oryx and Team Grey Aviators.

The friendly match was live-streamed on Qatar Airways’ social media channels, and fans worldwide followed along. Highlights and behind-the-scenes footage were shared on the airline’s platforms, giving fans a glimpse into the action on the plane.

Pushing the Boundaries of In-Flight Entertainment

The event coincided with the final phase of installing Starlink internet on Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777 fleet. The airline has also introduced the world’s first Airbus A350 aircraft equipped with Starlink. This move solidifies Qatar Airways’ position as a leader in in-flight technology and passenger experience.

Qatar Airways has the largest fleet of wide-body aircraft equipped with Starlink and is the first airline to install the system on its entire Airbus A350 fleet. The airline’s commitment to innovative technology enhances the in-flight experience, allowing passengers to stream, game, and work smoothly at 35,000 feet.
