Russian President Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that Russia would respond to Ukraine’s drone attack. The attack damaged several Russian warplanes.
This phone call was the second between Trump and Putin in a few weeks. Trump shared what they talked about on his social media platform. But he didn’t say if he pushed Putin to accept a ceasefire deal or what Russia’s response would be.
The two leaders talked for 75 minutes about the drone attack and other things. Trump said, “We discussed the attack and a few other things. It was a good talk, but it won’t lead to peace right away.”
Putin was firm that he would respond to the recent attack on a Russian warbase. Trump said he’d know if Putin was serious about ceasefire talks within two weeks. But he hasn’t made a decision yet.
Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy advisor to Putin, said Ukraine was trying to disrupt the call by attacking civilians. He said the two leaders agreed to talk more about Ukraine, including at the highest levels.
“Ukraine tried to disrupt this conversation by attacking civilians,” Ushakov said. “The leaders agreed to maintain contact on the issue of Ukraine, including at the highest level.”
