Electric vehicle drivers in Portugal will soon gain real-time access to public charging costs, a move designed to enhance transparency and allow for more informed financial decisions. The new feature aims to eliminate the uncertainty drivers previously faced, where final charging expenses were often unknown until after a session was complete.
The system will dynamically update and display critical cost components, including the price per kilowatt-hour (kWh), usage fees, and any associated parking charges. These details will be visible to drivers both before and during their charging sessions.
MOBI.E, the entity managing the country’s public charging network, is implementing the initiative. This update is part of broader efforts by MOBI.E to improve the overall efficiency and user experience of the EV charging infrastructure.
A representative from MOBI.E stated that the objective is to ensure consumers have all necessary information to make informed decisions in a simple and transparent manner.
The functionality is currently undergoing testing in various cities across the country. It is expected to be integrated into major electric mobility platforms and made available nationwide by the end of the year.
