The studio behind the popular video game Player Unknown Battlegrounds (PUBG), Krafton, has… announced that they have started a partnership with the blockchain company Solana Labs.
Blockchain and NFT Video Games
It is reported that both companies will collaborate on the development, operation, design and marketing of Blockchain and NFT related games and services.
Solana Labs is developing the Solana (SOL) blockchain, an Ethereum (ETH) competitor designed to offer high transaction speeds at a lower cost.
About a month ago, the company announced that they would be working on an NFT project for the Metaverse. This plan is now being expanded further. Johnny Lee, the director of games business development at Solana Labs, said of the new partnership:
“We are thrilled with KRAFTON’s commitment to building the future of gaming on Solana. KRAFTON is an established innovator in the gaming industry and we are excited to be a part of their next level. We see that gamers are increasingly looking for on-chain games and game companies that respond quickly to this demand will prepare themselves well for continued success.”

Not known whether blockchain functionalities will be added to existing titles
It is not yet known which of the titles from the South Korean Studio will have blockchain functionalities added, or whether PUBG would see such a thing with it. Last year, the PC game became free, which made it very popular. They also have a smartphone PUBG game, which has reportedly been downloaded more than 1 billion times. Krafton said the following about the deal:
“Krafton will continually find ways to work closely with blockchain companies like Solana Labs as we build our Web 3.0 ecosystem. Solana represents the best of the Web 3.0 ecosystem and its technologies. Through this partnership, Krafton will gain the insight needed to accelerate its investment in and output of blockchain-based experiences.”
