Sony has threatened legal action against Dbrand, a company that markets black cases for the PS5. Faced with the pressure, she decided to withdraw her products from sale. Yet when the cases were unveiled, Dbrand challenged Sony to take them to court.
Who plays smart, falls into the ravine. A few months ago, the Dbrand company unveiled black skins for the PS5, the Darkplates. An interesting idea, on paper, since many users had been disappointed by the white dress of the PS5. At the launch, the small company even challenged Sony by claiming that its cases were legal and that if it was not happy, the Japanese company had only to sue them. Sony did not pray and sent a very clear letter to Dbrand officials : either the company withdraws the Darkplates from the sale or legal action will be taken. Here, it is the small signs engraved on the shell that disturb: a square, a cross, a circle and a triangle, symbols protected by Sony. Even though they are stylized, they are recognizable. It is the small brand that shared the information on Reddit in a post filled with arrogance, even revealing the contents of the letter.

Dbrand announces yielding to Sony demands, while showing immaturity
She admits removing the black skins from the sale so as not to suffer the wrath of the Japanese brand. However, she plays on bad faith, claiming that if they infringe on intellectual property, the Squid Game series (which uses the same symbols) should also be attacked. The Reddit article also claims that Sony does not rely on any patents to support its threats, but do not forget to specify that the form of the console is protected, according to the multinational.
The post is just one long accusatory lament against Sony and ends as follows:
“We have decided to give in to the terrorists’ demands … for now.”

Anyway, it still exists a multitude of third-party cases that can be purchased on the net. The ones on the PS5 are very easy to remove (to include an extra SSD, for example) and it’s tempting to replace them with prettier ones.
