Prologis partners with Alcampo and Ocado to boost their phygital trade

Prologisworld leader in logistics asset management, has celebrated together with Alcampo and Ocado the progress of the works of Prologis Park San Fernando DC3, a new 30,000 square meter building, 36 docks –21 for trailers and 15 for vans– and a free height of 11 metres. The building will become an online order preparation center (CFC) for Alcampo. It is one of the largest retailers in Europe that brings together the formats of hypermarkets, supermarkets and proximity, so that it can boost its phygital trade based on the world’s leading technology owned by the Ocado Group.

The celebration of the progress of the works of this innovative building has had the presence of several regional and local authorities, such as Francisco Javier Corpa, mayor of San Fernando de Henares; Leticia Martín, town planning councilor for the Madrid municipality; Eduardo Sanromán, representing the Department of Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid; in addition to the main representatives of Prologis, Alcampo and the Ocado Group.

With an area of ​​influence of more than 8 million people

Prologis Park San Fernando DC3 is currently under construction on an area of ​​60,000 square meters and the works are expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2023. After the completion of the construction and the installation of the Ocado technology, online power orders will be distributed from this order preparation center to a catchment area of ​​more than 8 million people. Alcampo has more than 300 points of sale in Spain, where around 20,000 people work, and from which an assortment of nearly 68,000 references is offered.

The warehouse will have the latest Ocado Group automation and order preparation technology, a key factor in the deployment of the Ocado Smart comprehensive platform. Alcampo and the Ocado Group signed a collaboration agreement in 2021 to offer food customers throughout Spain a world-leading online experience through the Ocado Smart platform (OSP), which includes the comprehensive technology that drives the store online, order preparation and last mile operations. In addition, the building will have an installation of electric chargers for vans and cars, in line with the commitment of Prologis, Alcampo and Grupo Ocado to promote sustainable mobility in the freight transport sector.

In this area, Prologis Park San Fernando DC3 will have the BREEAM Excellent certification, which corroborates the quality of the building in terms of sustainable construction. In addition, the platform is located at a strategic point of entry to the center of Madrid, as well as 10 minutes from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and 20 minutes from Atocha Station.
