Talleres got the point they needed to become runner-up in the Professional League by equalizing 1-1 against Newell’s in a heated duel that ended with both teams with ten players. For Rosario, who suffered Leonel Vangioni’s expulsion in the final minute, the Ecuadorian Djorkaeff Reasco scored from a penalty, while for Cordoba, who lost Lucas Suárez for a double yellow at 61, Rodrigo Garro opened the scoring.
After a great campaign that led him to fight River, Talleres needed a point to crown that great tournament with the runner-up. And he went looking for him from the start, despite the fact that Newell’s handled the ball more and had better arrivals through Reasco. However, Garro’s excellent punch helped him to take the lead, with a spectacular free kick.
Newell’s did not feel the impact and continued with his search, based on Vangioni’s climbs, although he suffered from behind with the Cordovan counterattacks. However, the local team struck first, with a cross from Balzi, which hit Garro’s hand and led to the penalty scored by Reasco.
The second half showed a more aggressive Newell’s, who went on the attack and also had half an hour of play with one more man due to Lucas Suárez’s double yellow card. Reasco had the goal, but his shot hit the post. And a while later, the post denied Pérez Tica the goal.
Talleres, who held on with ten, found the goal with a header from Rodríguez that he defined from a mouthful above Hoyos, but the goal was annulled due to an advanced position at the request of the VAR.
For this reason, Newell’s went looking for the victory in the last minutes and had two other opportunities, but Guido Herrera took the shot from Méndez and Pérez Tica raised his shot from a very good position. In that search came Vangioni’s blow to Pizzini that earned him the expulsion and that stopped the Rosario onslaught. On the other side, Talleres held on and was awarded with the runner-up.
