Professional League: Racing recovered with a win against Newell’s

Racing achieved a restorative victory on Sunday night after having lost the classic against Independiente and the dismissal of coach Juan Antonio Pizzi, by beating Newell’s 2-0 in the match that marked the start of Claudio Ubeda’s interim position at the front of the squad. The opening of the scoreboard was Tomás Chancalay with an Olympic goal and Fabricio Domínguez increased the difference, at 7 and 27 minutes into the second stage, respectively. Thanks to the victory, “La Academia” climbed to fourth position with 11 points, three behind the Independiente leader, while Rosario remained with 10 points in eighth place.

The first half was even, with two teams trying to handle the ball, but lacking collective play and deep plays. Therefore, both archers almost did not have work. Racing, in need of a victory after the 1-0 defeat in the classic, could not show the solidity necessary to take possession of the ball and prevail at home. The “albiceleste” midfield could not control the ball and lacked connection with the forwards, despite the fact that Darío Cvitanich came down to try to help in the generation of the game.

Fernando Gamboa’s team had a greater presence on the field, neutralized their rival, did not let him play and put pressure on him at the start from his own goal. The few approaches to the goals defended by Arias and Aguerre were from set pieces and not due to elaborate plays at the collective level.

Seven minutes into the second stage, a play arrived with some luck that changed the history of the match: Tomás Chancalay executed a corner at the near post that was barely deflected by forward Ignacio Scocco, who ended up dislodging Aguerre and scored the marker opening.

With the result against, the Rosario became owners of the ball and stopped in the rival field, although without achieving dangerous plays in their favor. In the most predominant moment of the Rosario team, midfielder Anibal Moreno tried a shot from outside the area that forced goalkeeper Aguerre to rebound, which was used by Domínguez to increase the difference.

The two-goal advantage allowed Claudio Ubeda’s team, who will remain in his position until the end of the season, to have enough peace of mind to take care of the victory, despite the attempts by the Rosario to reverse the result.
