Professional League: Newell’s saw Lanús and recovered his memory

Newell’s (20 points) snapped an eight-game winless streak and in its Marcelo Bielsa stadium defeated Lanús (7) by 2 to 0. Franco Ortellado against his goal and Guillermo Balzi scored in the first half the goals of the Rosario team, which ended with ten players due to the expulsion of Nazareno Funez after 5 minutes of the second stage.

The red and black team dominated the match from start to finish. During the first few minutes, he became the owner of the ball and had the clearest situations, until at 26′ he managed to open the scoring with the goal against Ortelado. With the result in their favour, Newell’s continued to be superior and stretched the lead with two minutes left to close the first stage with a goal from Balzi. Lanús did not take advantage of having had one more man in the entire complement and was even closer to suffering the third than to reaching the discount.

Despite its negative series, in the annual table, Newell’s remains with 43 points within the qualifying zone for the 2023 Copa Sudamericana. On the other hand, Lanús’ campaign is disappointing from any point of view. He is last both in the championship and in the season and has eleven games without a win (two draws and nine losses). Since Frank Darío Kudelka took office, he could not win and this bad moment could complicate his permanence in the First Division next year. He would start with the fifth worst average and there will be four relegations.
