Professional League: Banfield won and left Huracán in the relegation zone

Banfield (26th with 21 points) achieved a vital victory this Sunday against Argentinos Juniors (10th with 32) and left the relegation zone after an acceptable match played in the south of Buenos Aires. Milton Giménez, 23 minutes into the second half, gave the Drill a 1-0 victory.

With this result, Julio Cesar Falcioni’s team ended a streak of three uneventful matches in the competition and surpassed Huracán (19 points) in the annual standings, thus leaving Parque Patricios’ team in the relegation zone (like Arsenal is last in the annual table and the averages, the Globe would fall as penultimate in the table).

Banfield started from the start with the conviction of keeping the three points to avoid relegation. A clear example of this was that in the first 10 minutes he generated two actions with Aarón Quirós, both headed, but goalkeeper Alexis Arias intervened in the first and the other action over the crossbar.

When he was halfway through the second stage, from a corner kick and after a carom, Giménez from the ground took a violent cross shot to sign the 1 to 0 and unleash the contained joy of the Banfileño public in the south of Buenos Aires.

At the end of the game, González Metilli and Gabriel Avalos had clear chances to achieve equality, but the lack of aim and the intervention of goalkeeper Facundo Cabeses decided that the victory should go to Banfield, which allowed him to dream of avoiding relegation.
