Akshay Kumar’s movie “Toilet: A Love Story” has been a topic of discussion lately. Member of Parliament and actress Jaya Bachchan had expressed her disappointment with the film’s title and even called it a “flop”. Now, the film’s producer, Prerna Arora, has responded to Jaya’s statements.
Prerna, a huge fan of Jaya, was disheartened to hear her comments about the film. She said, “I’m a big fan of Jaya ji, and it’s sad to hear her say that our film was a flop. I wish she would check the box office numbers. Our film did amazingly well and was one of the top 5 hits of 2017.”
Jaya Bachchan’s comments spark debate
Prerna also offered to show Jaya the film and explain the thought process behind the title. “Initially, we were unsure about the title, but eventually, we decided to go with it. As a producer, I’ve taken risks, just like Jaya ma’am has taken risks with her roles. She’s done films like ‘Dusri Sita’, where she played a woman who kills her abusive husband. I’m proud of ‘Toilet: A Love Story’, and if Jaya ma’am permits, I’d love to screen it for her.”
Jaya had criticized the film’s title, saying, “Look at the name of the film; I wouldn’t watch such films. ‘Toilet: A Love Story’ – what kind of title is that? Please tell me how many of you would watch a film with such a title?” When she asked the audience if they would watch the film, only a few raised their hands. She immediately responded, “The film is a flop.”
Prerna’s response highlights the discrepancy between Jaya’s comments and the film’s actual box office performance. It will be interesting to see how this conversation unfolds and whether Jaya will accept Prerna’s offer to watch the film.
