Processor war: Apple and MediaTek beat Qualcomm

Benchmark tests of the main high-end processors of 2022 have been revealed. And the results are surprising.

Apple Bionic A15 and MediaTek Dimensity 9000 beat Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in single-core and multi-core tests.

MediaTek is taking its first steps into the premium smartphone segment with its new top-of-the-line Dimensity 9000 processor. Powerful.

Now the results of new benchmarking tests have been revealed that show that Qualcomm has a rival more than up to the task. According to information published by Ice Universe, Geekbench 5 benchmark scores show that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was outperformed by Apple’s A15 Bionic and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 in single-core and multi-core mode tests.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 scored 3752 in multi-core tests and 1231 in single-core mode, giving it a slightly better result than its Snpadragon 888 predecessor. But in the same Geekbench 5 tests, Dimensity 9000 scores 4410 points in multiple cores and 1278 in single core mode.

This score, very close to the results obtained by Apple with its Bionic A15, beats the latest Qualcomm processor, especially in multi-core tests, the difference of which is still quite significant.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 overheating issue may contribute to subpar results

The alleged overheating and throttling issues of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 may contribute to the results obtained in these comparative tests. On the other hand, we can’t rule out the possibility that MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 actually performs excellently.

We will have to wait for the arrival of smartphones equipped with the new MediaTek flagship processor to be able to reach a conclusion closer to the reality of users. After all, these tests are usually carried out with models in the pre-launch phase and some adjustments are always made that can optimize (or not) the performance of smartphones.

It should also be remembered that, so far, smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 already available on the market also have advanced cooling systems that apparently minimize the overheating of the Qualcomm chip, optimizing performance.
