Priya Marathe Passes Away at 38; ‘Fighter Sister’ Tribute From Cousin Subodh Bhave

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of a bright talent. Actress Priya Marathe, a familiar face in both Marathi and Hindi television, passed away too soon. She was only 38 years old. Priya left us on August 31, 2025, at her home in Mira Road, Mumbai, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Her untimely death deeply saddened not just her family and friends, but also the entire television industry and countless fans. Her cousin, Marathi actor Subodh Bhave, shared a heartfelt tribute. He called Priya his “fighter sister,” saying she faced every challenge with immense bravery. Sadly, the illness eventually claimed her life.

A Childhood Dreamer

Priya Marathe was born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai. From a young age, she was drawn to arts and drama. After completing her schooling and college in Mumbai, Priya decided to focus on theater and performing arts. Her special gift was finding inspiration in small things and bringing them to life on stage. Her family initially hoped she would pursue a career in academics, but her heart was always set on acting.

From Comedy to Stardom

Not many people know that Priya Marathe began her journey in stand-up comedy. Her sharp comic timing and natural confidence in these early performances amazed audiences. Over time, she moved to television. She started building her name in Marathi serials like ‘Ya Sukhano Ya’ and ‘Char Divas Sasuche’.

However, real fame found her with the Hindi TV show ‘Pavitra Rishta’. Playing the character of Varsha, she became a household name. Sharing the screen with the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput was a memorable experience for her. This show truly cemented Priya’s place in the entertainment industry.

Versatile Roles and Lasting Impressions

Priya Marathe’s talent was not limited to just one hit show. She continued to shine, leaving her mark in various roles. She played Jyoti Malhotra in ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain,’ bringing a fresh touch to the series. In the Marathi serial ‘Tu Tithe Mi,’ she took on a negative character with complex shades. This showed everyone she could handle any kind of role with ease.

In 2017, she joined the popular Star Plus show ‘Saath Nibhaana Saathiya’. Her portrayal of Bhavani Rathod was so powerful that viewers remembered her as a truly formidable antagonist. Her ability to embody such distinct characters made her a beloved and respected artist.
