Prison closed for a passive police officer during the murder of George Floyd

All the police officers present during the agony of George Floyd have now been sentenced to prison. On Wednesday, the last two officers tried in federal court, Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, were sentenced to three and three and a half years in prison for violating the civil rights of George Floyd. They have yet to be tried in Minnesota state justice for complicity in manslaughter in separate proceedings.

Alexander Kueng had participated in the immobilization of George Floyd while Derek Chauvin kept his knee on the neck of the African American arrested for having paid with a counterfeit note. Tou Thao remained nearby as the crowd filming the scene begged him to intervene.

Last week, the fourth agent, Thomas Lane, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison. He chose to plead guilty in Minnesota justice after negotiating an agreement with prosecutors who requested three years in prison, a sentence that should not be added to his federal sentence.
