Prince Andrew was stripped of his honorary positions

prince andrew, son of Queen Elizabeth II, resigned his honorary positions at the head of military regiments and charitable associations. This was reported on Thursday by Buckingham Palace. The news is known in the midst of the civil case that the Duke of York faces in the United States for sexual assault

“With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military titles and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen”, specified the Royal House in a brief statement.

“The Duke of York will continue to hold no public office and will defend himself in this case as a private citizen.”, add the text.

On Wednesday, a New York judge rejected the request filed by the prince’s lawyers to have the allegation of sexual assault dismissed brought against him by Virginia Giuffre, an American who accuses him of a sexual assault in 2001, when she was 17 years old.

Giuffre is one of the victims of the sexual crimes of the American financier Jeffrey Epstein, found guilty of pedophilia by a Florida court and committed suicide in a New York jail in August 2019. At the time of his death, Epstein was awaiting a new trial for child trafficking and abuse.

Andrew, 61 years old, son of the monarch, claimed his friendship with epstein in a controversial interview he gave to the BBC in November 2019, after which retired from public life.

Considered “the favorite son” of Elizabeth II, Andrés is facing a scandal that damages not only his image but also that of the British monarchy, perhaps the most serious scandal of all the 95-year-old queen has faced, which in 2022 he celebrates seven decades on the throne.
