Preventive Prison for Drunk Driver Who Hit Motorcyclist in December; Victim Died in April

A 30-year-old man died after a drunken driver crashed into his motorcycle in Chuy, Rocha, on December 24. The accident happened around 11 p.m. on Av. Brasil and San Gonzalo. The pickup truck hit the motorcycle, causing severe injuries to the rider. Months later, on April 19, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Accident Details

The motorcycle had two occupants: a 56-year-old driver and a 26-year-old passenger. However, it’s reported that only one person, the 30-year-old victim, was on the motorcycle. The pickup truck also hit several parked vehicles, injuring two people with minor injuries.

Charges and Investigation

The pickup truck driver was arrested and charged after failing a breathalyzer test. His driver’s license was revoked on the spot. Initially, his passenger was also detained for disobeying police orders but was later released. Following the motorcyclist’s death, authorities issued a warrant for the pickup truck driver’s arrest. He was charged with manslaughter due to reckless behavior and is currently being held on 90-day preventive detention while the investigation continues.
