Presidential 2022: Republicans kick off right-wing campaign

On the right, the presidential campaign is launched. The Republicans (LR) announced it in a statement posted on their Twitter account this Wednesday at the end of the day.

Six personalities have already applied for the party congress. The final list will be adopted on November 4, by the control body. A pretender assumed the presidency of the Republic since his election at the head of Hauts-de-France, Xavier Bertrand created a surprise on Monday, by declaring on TF1 that he would also submit to the votes of LR sympathizers.

Reluctant at first, the one who refuses to take back his party membership card, will finally comply with the exercise. A relief for the Republicans, already in difficulty in the polls on the voting intentions in the presidential election by the polemicist Eric Zemmour.

This first stage of the Elysée race will therefore take place from 1er until December 4. The activists will meet in Congress to elect the one who will represent them in the next presidential election, in April 2022. The former mayor of Saint-Quentin will face the big favorite of the Young Republicans, Valérie Pécresse, but also Michel Barnier, Eric Ciotti, Philippe Juvin and Denis Payre. But before being able to claim the support of the party, each candidate will first have to gather at least 250 sponsorships of elected officials, by November 2.
