President Trump Attends Yankees Game Commemorating 9/11 Anniversary

Donald Trump watched the New York Yankees

The crack of a bat usually signals just another game. But on a recent Thursday, at Yankee Stadium, baseball felt bigger. It became a national memory, wrapped in the colors of the American flag. The United States President was there, watching the New York Yankees baseball team play.

His visit marked the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Earlier that day, he had honored the victims of the 2001 attacks in New York and Washington. These attacks caused nearly 3,000 deaths. President Donald Trump then went to see the game that night.

Aaron Boone, the Yankees manager, was clearly thrilled. He even hoped Trump would stop by the clubhouse while the team hosted their opponents, the Detroit Tigers. “The fact he is here excites me to be a part of it,” Boone said. He added that he wanted the chance to “interact for a few minutes” with the President.

Since the attacks, the Yankees and their fans celebrate September 11. During the seventh-inning stretch, a short break, they sing “God Bless America.” This happens in addition to the traditional “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” They kept this tradition alive again on Thursday.

The scoreboard at Yankee Stadium showed a large logo for Major League Baseball, the American baseball organization. It was placed over a US flag. A red, white, and blue ribbon below said, “September 11, 2001, We Will Never Forget.”

Donald Trump’s presence marked the third time a president visited Yankee Stadium to see a game. George W. Bush visited in 2001. Warren G. Harding came in 1923. That was the same year the original stadium opened.

A presidential visit always requires extra security at sports events. However, the situation on Thursday became more intense. A conservative activist, Charlie Kirk, a close ally of Trump, was assassinated. This happened at the University of Utah on Wednesday. The Associated Press reported all these details.
