The athletes earned three impressive medals, proving their spot among the sport’s top nations. Their strong presence in many final races kept national canoeing standards notably high.

Portugal finished the Milan championships with a gold, a silver, and a bronze medal. The team of Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista, and Pedro Casinha made history. They grabbed an unprecedented world title in the K4 500 meters event. This was a truly special moment for the squad.

João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista weren’t done there. They also teamed up for a silver medal. This came in the K2 500 event, adding more glory to their haul. Veteran Fernando Pimenta contributed a bronze medal to the tally. He raced in the K1 1,000 meters, which is an Olympic distance. Pimenta arrived at these championships with a big reputation, having won three medals at the 2023 World Championships in Germany.

At 36 years old, Pimenta continues to rack up impressive results. This bronze was his 155th international podium finish. He also showed his skill in other races. He placed fourth in the K1 500 and sixth in the K1 5,000.
