President of the Supreme Court of Peru summons the three powers in the face of the crisis

The president of the Peruvian Judiciary, Elvia Barrios, convened a session of the Council of State for this Sunday at noon, to which she invited the president of the country, Pedro Castillo, and the president of Congress, José Williams, to promote dialogue between both powers.

Barrios issued a letter this Saturday afternoon explaining that he called this meeting "with the purpose of adopting actions that guarantee the democratic governance of the Nation, based on inter-institutional dialogue and within the framework of the Public Constitution".

He added that the session, which will take place this Sunday, November 27 at 12:00 local time (17:00 GMT) at the Palace of Justice, will also include representatives of the Comptroller General of the Republic, the Ombudsman’s Office and the National Board of Justice.

Shortly after this announcement, the Public Ministry announced on its Twitter account that the nation’s prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, will not participate in the meeting.

"Given the call for a session of the Council of State, the Public Ministry informs that the Prosecutor of the Nation will not participate in this meeting, as she is in charge of investigations against the President of the Republic"announced the institution.

In the statement he argues his absence by indicating that Castillo "is directly investigated by the office of the National Prosecutor’s Office, which is why it is not consistent with institutional autonomy to participate in this Council of State due to its purely political nature".

"The institutional position of the Public Ministry expressed at all times is that the principle of separation of powers and the current constitutional and legal order be respected."Add.

The institution concludes by indicating that it will continue to fulfill its constitutional functions with autonomy, respecting the democratic order and the foundations of the Rule of Law.

The tension between Congress and the Government of the country has increased in recent days, when the former president of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, presented a motion of confidence to the Legislature that it rejected, which has given rise to a new cabinet and The doors have been opened to an eventual closure of Congress by the Executive.
