The president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), Mr. Antonio Acosta, made a vehement call to maintain the sports spirit when commemorating Olympic Day this Thursday.

Acosta recalled that, at a time when the country and the world are going through different situations that affect humanity, and that the sports sector is no exception, it is fair to recognize the role of leaders played by athletes, coaches, technicians and managers. .

“Every day sport performs exemplary functions and provides countless satisfactions. In celebrating Olympic Day, we recognize the role played by the sports movement in the country,” Acosta said.

The president of the COD also announced that, upon the arrival of the delegations representing the country at the Bolivarian Games in Valledupar and the I Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe, the Olympic Day celebrations will culminate in mid-July in San José de Ocoa. .

He recalled that Olympic Day is celebrated on June 23 each year to commemorate the date the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded in 1894, as well as the birth of the Modern Olympic Games. Acosta invited the national sports leadership to celebrate this day and to be aware of the performances and successes that the Dominican athletes will reap both in the Bolivarian Games and in the multi-sport event in Guadalupe, which will take place from June 29 to July 3. .

The Bolivarians of Valledupar will be held from June 24 to July 5.

He explained that the celebration of Olympic Day in San José de Ocoa will include various activities, such as a walk, a reforestation day and a talk by the COD Women and Sports Commission.

He said that the Olympic Day celebration is celebrated in all IOC affiliated countries as a world sports festival.
