The President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, raised the need and importance of creating a tourist route between his country, the Dominican Republic and Panama with the aim that European, Canadian and American tourists and from all over the world can enjoy a complementary tourist offer taking advantage of the beauties in a single package of those countries.
Interviewed by Moisés González from the newspaper Despertar Nacional, at the Summit of the Central American Integration System held in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, the president of Costa Rica maintained that both his country, Panama and the Dominican Republic have multiple attractions and a unique tourist offer oriented towards sustainable tourism and a climate of safety that attracts tourists.
“Me I believe that tourist destinations are no longer just Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic or the Gulf of Papagayo in Costa Rica which is our equivalent, I think we should create a route complementing our natural beauties. The Dominican Republic has beautiful beaches, Costa Rica has a hundred and some volcanoes, of which 7 are active, we have a jungle and forest coverage of 57% of the national territory, and when people feel safe, Americans, Europeans, Canadians, when they feel safe, they feel welcome, they feel well served,” said the president of Costa Rica.
The Costa Rican president indicated that with this route or tourist circuit between Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Panama they will be able to demonstrate different comparative advantages, and complementarities, offering a higher value package for those who come from afar.
Alliance for Development in Democracy
Rodrigo Chaves highlighted the importance of the Alliance for Development in Democracy that is made up of the Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica and Ecuador,
“I think it is very important to show the world that In Latin America there are societies like the Dominican, Costa Rican, Panamanian and Ecuadorian where there is freedom of expression, where we have freedom of the press and a deep democracy and also a personal note happy peoples, peoples that are excellent hosts and that is manifested in the tourism that both Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic share, that industry that is manifested in foreign direct investment, free zones and nearshoring.
The president of Costa Rica described as “successful” the celebration in the city of Santiago de los Caballeros of the VI Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
The “Declaration of Santiago de los Caballeros”, approved at the LVI Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA), expressed its support for the call made by the Dominican Republic to the international community to carry out efforts to seek answers to the crisis in Haiti.
Rodrigo Chaves described the international community’s response to the crisis of social, economic and political instability that Haiti is going through as insufficient.
He stressed that 20% of the people living in Costa Rica are immigrants and that developed countries should support receiving countries such as Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic with greater resources.
